I was born at 8:12 A.M. on a Wednesday I believe. Wednesday's child is full of woe...:'( This appears to fit well.
Let's start BEFORE I was born in 1961.
My father was born 5/24/1920 to Janie Clack and Oliver Holcomb. They named him Lenord Hinton, and he had an identical twin named Elmer. They were the youngest of several children living. He had a sister who died, Lindy. His older siblings were Ethel, Floyd, Minor, Kelly, W.J. (Jay) and Annie. When he and Elmer were about 13 months old, Elmer died. The other children all grew up, married and had children.
A few memories told by daddy...
About Janie...when she was a little girl she once threw a chicken on top of her father who was cleaning the well, for which she got into big trouble. Another time the family had the preacher to "dinner". At this time the children ate after the adults, and it was seldom they had as good a meal as when the preacher came (and of course it was fried chicken ;)). She watched the preacher reaching for seconds, and said "recollect preacher us kids ain't et yet". Again, she got in trouble. She was one of 16 children (her father was married three times - two were sisters). She appears to have been a very feisty lady. As an older woman she stayed with her children, she was bad not to wear underwear and "went" wherever and whenever she pleased. She went into the hospital in her 80's and they discovered that she had cancer, however, before she was told she died of a heart attack. (I was about 10 months old at the time and of course don't remember her).
I know less about Oliver...I know that he died in the 1940's (about 1944 I think), which was long before I was born. They said he had "creeping paralysis". I'm not sure what this is, but it doesn't sound good. Once they said that a friend came by and was told not to get near him, he had good days and bad, and they thought he was having a "bad" day. The friend ignored the advice, got too close and was hit (hard), which made him angry and he refused to come back (even though he'd been warned).
